Mississippi Mud Pie Recipe

Rich, Fudgy, and Completely Irresistible—A Clean Twist on a Southern Classic
If you’ve ever tasted a slice of Mississippi mud pie, you know it’s decadence at its best. With layers of fudgy chocolate filling, a crisp cookie crust, and a silky finish that melts in your mouth, this dessert is pure comfort. But this version? It’s made with clean, real ingredients—so you can indulge without the crash.
I created this Mississippi mud pie recipe after a summer family reunion where the dessert table was loaded with chocolate pies, but none of them felt quite right. They were either too sweet or full of processed ingredients. I wanted something rich and satisfying, but still homemade and wholesome.
The result? A deep, chocolatey dessert that’s perfect for holidays, potlucks, or those "I-need-something-chocolate-now" moments.
Ingredients
For the Crust:
-
1½ cups almond flour
-
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-
3 tablespoons coconut oil or butter, melted
-
2 tablespoons maple syrup
-
Pinch of sea salt
For the Filling:
-
½ cup dark chocolate chips (70% or higher)
-
¼ cup coconut oil or butter
-
⅓ cup maple syrup
-
2 eggs
-
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
Pinch of salt
Optional Topping:
-
Coconut whipped cream or Greek yogurt
-
Dark chocolate shavings or cacao nibs
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie pan.
-
Make the Crust: In a bowl, mix almond flour, cocoa powder, coconut oil, maple syrup, and salt. Press firmly into the pie dish to form an even crust. Bake for 8–10 minutes. Let cool slightly.
-
Make the Filling: In a saucepan, melt chocolate chips and coconut oil over low heat. Stir in maple syrup, then remove from heat and let cool for 2 minutes. Whisk in eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
-
Bake: Pour filling into pre-baked crust. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until the center is just set and slightly fudgy. It will firm up as it cools.
-
Cool & Serve: Let cool completely before slicing. Top with whipped cream or Greek yogurt and chocolate shavings if desired.
