Grilled Chicken Drumsticks with Honey Glaze Recipe

This recipe started out as one of those “use-what-you-have” dinners — just some drumsticks, pantry spices, and honey. But once I tasted the smoky, sweet glaze over those crispy grilled drumsticks, I knew it was going into regular rotation.
They’re sticky, savory, and perfectly charred — with that irresistible balance of sweet and salty. Plus, they’re budget-friendly, simple to prep, and always a crowd favorite, even with picky eaters.
It’s the kind of recipe that looks like you put in effort, but you didn’t. And that’s a win in my book.
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
-
8 chicken drumsticks
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp smoked paprika
-
¾ tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
For the Honey Glaze:
-
¼ cup honey
-
1 tbsp soy sauce
-
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
-
1 tsp Dijon mustard
-
½ tsp chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F).
-
Pat the drumsticks dry, then toss with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
-
Make the glaze: In a small saucepan, whisk together honey, soy sauce, vinegar, mustard, and chili flakes. Simmer over low heat for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside.
-
Grill drumsticks for 25–30 minutes, turning every 5–7 minutes, until they’re golden and the internal temp reaches 175°F.
-
Brush generously with glaze during the last 5 minutes of grilling. Let the glaze caramelize slightly, turning once or twice.
-
Rest a few minutes before serving.
Sarah’s Tips
-
If you want to double the flavor, marinate the chicken in the spice mix and olive oil for a few hours before grilling.
-
Add a little extra glaze on the side for dipping.
-
These are great served with corn on the cob, coleslaw, or roasted potatoes.
