I’ve made meatballs a million different ways, but when I need something light, cozy, and no-fuss, these Slow Cooker Tomato Basil Turkey Meatballs always hit the spot.

They’re juicy and flavorful with a hint of garlic and Parmesan, simmered low and slow in a rich tomato basil sauce that makes your kitchen smell amazing. I love serving them over pasta, zucchini noodles, or tucked into a warm toasty sub.

These are healthy, family-friendly, and freezer-friendly — basically, weeknight gold.

Ingredients (serves 4–6):

For the Meatballs:

  • 1.25 lbs ground turkey

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (or almond flour for gluten-free)

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: 1 tsp sugar (to cut acidity), red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions:

  1. Mix meatballs: In a bowl, combine turkey, Parmesan, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, basil, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 1 ½-inch meatballs.

  2. Add to slow cooker: In the bottom of the slow cooker, stir together crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add meatballs directly into the sauce in a single layer.

  3. Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 2.5–3 hours, until meatballs are fully cooked through (internal temp should be 165°F).

  4. Serve: Spoon over pasta, zoodles, rice, or toasted buns. Garnish with fresh basil or extra Parmesan if desired.

Sarah’s Tips & Swaps:

  • Make it dairy-free: Omit Parmesan or use a dairy-free alternative.

  • Low carb? Serve with zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash.

  • Meal prep tip: These freeze beautifully — freeze in sauce in containers for future quick meals.

  • Extra flavor? Sear the meatballs in a pan for 2 minutes per side before slow cooking.

Flavorful Conclusion:

These tomato basil turkey meatballs are one of those meals that feels like a warm hug. They’re simple, satisfying, and always a family favorite. Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just want a cozy bowl of something delicious, this recipe is a must-keep.
