Grilled Cheddar and Apple Sandwich Recipe

This sandwich was born on a chilly afternoon when I needed something comforting but didn’t want to feel heavy. I sliced up a crisp apple, added sharp cheddar, and grilled it like a classic grilled cheese. The sweet crunch of apple with that melty cheese and buttery bread? Totally addicting. It’s the kind of simple, cozy meal I make when I want something special, but don't have the energy for “fancy.” It’s comfort food with a little unexpected twist — and it always hits the spot.
Ingredients
-
4 slices of good-quality bread (like sourdough or whole wheat)
-
2 tablespoons butter, softened
-
4–6 slices sharp cheddar cheese
-
1 crisp apple (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
-
Optional: drizzle of honey or a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth
Instructions
-
Preheat grill or grill pan to medium heat.
-
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
-
On the unbuttered side, layer cheddar cheese and apple slices. Add honey or cinnamon if using.
-
Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
-
Grill 2–3 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden and cheese is melted.
-
Slice and enjoy while warm and gooey.
