Homemade Pizza Bowl Recipe

30-minute meal customizable meals easy dinner recipes gluten free high protein meals kid friendly low carb pizza night serves 4

Some nights, I just want pizza… but without the bloated, heavy feeling that often follows. That’s exactly why I started making these Homemade Pizza Bowls.

They’re everything you love about pizza—melty cheese, savory sauce, your favorite toppings—all baked into a bowl of deliciousness, minus the crust. It’s faster than delivery, super customizable, and honestly? Kind of genius for picky eaters or low-carb nights.

My kids call them “pizza sundaes,” and I’m not mad about it.

Ingredients (for 4 bowls):

  • 1 lb Italian sausage or ground beef, cooked and drained

  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers

  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives

  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion

  • 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms

  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano

  • Optional toppings: mini pepperoni, banana peppers, jalapeños, cooked bacon, fresh basil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Prep your bowls: Use 4 small oven-safe ramekins or bowls. Lightly grease with olive oil or spray.

  3. Layer the ingredients:

    • Spoon 1–2 tbsp of sauce into the bottom of each bowl.

    • Add a layer of cooked meat.

    • Top with your favorite veggies and half the cheese.

    • Add another spoonful of sauce and more cheese.

  4. Season and bake: Sprinkle with oregano. Place bowls on a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.

  5. Cool & serve: Let cool slightly before serving. Optional: top with fresh basil, crushed red pepper, or a little Parmesan.

Sarah’s Tips & Swaps:

  • No ramekins? Use a muffin tin to make mini pizza cups or an 8x8 baking dish to create a shared version.

  • Dairy-free option: Use plant-based mozzarella and skip the Parmesan.

  • Low-carb tip: These are naturally low-carb and gluten-free—no crust needed!

  • Freezer hack: You can assemble these ahead and freeze unbaked. Just bake straight from frozen, adding 5–7 extra minutes.

Flavorful Conclusion:

These pizza bowls have become a weeknight favorite in our house. They’re easy to throw together, fun to customize, and give you that cheesy, saucy, pizza-night joy without the fuss. Bonus: no dough to roll, no crumbs to clean, and everyone gets what they want in their bowl.
