Grilled Pizza Margherita Recipe

I used to think making pizza at home meant heating up the oven to 500°F and sweating through dinner prep. But the first time I tossed a pizza dough on the grill… it changed everything. The crust turned perfectly crisp and just smoky enough — like something from a fancy wood-fired oven. When I topped it with fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and basil from our little herb pot? Pure summer. Now it’s our Friday night ritual when the weather’s warm — easy, fun, and full of those "mmm" moments that bring everyone to the table.
Ingredients
-
1 ball of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
½ cup crushed San Marzano tomatoes or pizza sauce
-
4 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
-
1–2 fresh tomatoes, thinly sliced
-
Fresh basil leaves
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
-
Roll or stretch the pizza dough into a 10–12 inch circle. Lightly brush one side with olive oil.
-
Place the dough oil-side down on the grill. Grill for 2–3 minutes until bubbles form and the bottom has light grill marks.
-
Flip the dough with tongs, then quickly spread on sauce, add mozzarella, tomato slices, and season lightly with salt and pepper.
-
Close the grill lid and cook another 3–5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is golden.
-
Remove from grill, add fresh basil, and slice to serve warm.
