Grilled Burgers with Caramelized Onions Recipe

Ingredients

For the Burgers

  • 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 4 burger buns

  • Optional toppings: cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo

For the Caramelized Onions

  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar or a pinch of sugar (optional, for added sweetness)

 

 Instructions

1. Make the Caramelized Onions

In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add olive oil or butter.
Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt.
Cook slowly, stirring often, for 20 to 25 minutes until onions are soft, golden, and sweet.
Optional: Stir in a dash of balsamic vinegar or sugar during the last few minutes of cooking for extra depth.

2. Shape the Burgers

Form ground beef into four equal patties, about ¾ inch thick.
Press a slight dimple in the center of each to help them cook evenly.
Season both sides with salt and pepper.

3. Grill the Burgers

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
Grill patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
Add cheese during the last minute of grilling, if using.
Toast the burger buns on the grill for 1 minute if desired.

4. Assemble the Burgers

Place grilled patties on buns.
Top with a generous spoonful of caramelized onions.
Add your favorite toppings and condiments.
