Chili Cheese Tater Tots Recipe

One Friday night, I was short on time and big on cravings. I had a bag of tater tots and leftover chili in the fridge — so I tossed them together, added some cheese, and popped it all in the oven. That’s how these chili cheese tater tots were born. Now it’s our go-to when we want something fun, filling, and just a little bit indulgent (but still made with real ingredients!).
Ingredients:
-
1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
-
2 cups cooked chili (homemade or canned, your favorite)
-
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
-
1/4 cup chopped green onions
-
Optional toppings: sour cream, jalapeños, chopped tomatoes, avocado
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
-
Spread frozen tater tots in a single layer and bake according to package instructions, usually 25–30 minutes, until crispy and golden.
-
Remove tots from the oven. Spoon hot chili evenly over the top.
-
Sprinkle shredded cheese all over the chili-covered tots.
-
Return to oven and bake for 5–7 more minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
-
Top with green onions and any additional toppings. Serve immediately while hot and gooey.
