Berry Crisp Recipe (Mixed Berries Baked with an Oat and Cinnamon)

There was a season when every craving led me to chocolate or store-bought snacks. I’d tell myself I "deserved it" after a long day, but the sugar crashes and bloating afterward told a different story.
This Berry Crisp was one of the first “sweet treats” I could feel good about. Made with real fruit, oats, and just a touch of maple syrup, it gave me that cozy, comforting feeling without the regret. I love serving it warm with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a splash of coconut cream. My kids devour it, and I don’t even have to hide it! 😍
Easy Mixed Berry Crisp Recipe
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Serves: 6
Ingredients
For the berry filling:
-
4 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen – I use blueberries, raspberries, and sliced strawberries)
-
2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the oat topping:
-
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
-
½ cup almond flour (or regular flour)
-
⅓ cup chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts – optional but delish)
-
¼ cup coconut oil or butter, melted
-
¼ cup maple syrup or honey
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
Pinch of salt
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine berries, maple syrup, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla. Toss gently until coated.
-
Pour berry mixture into a greased 8x8 or 9-inch pie dish.
-
In another bowl, mix together oats, almond flour, nuts (if using), cinnamon, and salt. Add melted coconut oil and maple syrup, stirring until crumbly.
-
Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the berries.
-
Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the berries are bubbly.
-
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. (Try it warm with a scoop of Greek yogurt or vanilla coconut ice cream — YUM!)

Sarah’s Tips
-
Use what you have! Frozen berries work great — no need to thaw.
-
Want it gluten-free? Use certified gluten-free oats.
-
Want it lower sugar? You can skip the maple syrup in the filling if your berries are super sweet.
-
Double it! This is a great dish to bring to a BBQ or potluck — just bake in a 9x13 pan and double the ingredients.
The Bottom Line
This Mixed Berry Crisp is everything I love in a dessert — sweet, simple, and secretly kinda healthy. It’s a little rustic, a little indulgent, and totally guilt-free. Whether it’s for a weekend cookout or just a Tuesday night craving, this recipe’s become a staple in my “feel good food” collection. ❤️
