Beef Satay with Peanut Sauce Recipe

The first time I made satay was for a girls’ night in. I wanted something a little different, but still simple and satisfying. The marinade came together in minutes, and the creamy peanut sauce stole the show. Now it's one of my go-to recipes when I want something fun, flavorful, and not too fussy.

1½ pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced into strips
-
2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon lime juice
-
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 teaspoon ground coriander
-
½ teaspoon turmeric
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes (if using)
For the Peanut Sauce
-
½ cup creamy peanut butter
-
2 tablespoons soy sauce
-
1 tablespoon brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon lime juice
-
½ teaspoon grated ginger
-
1 garlic clove, minced
-
¼ to ½ cup warm water (to thin the sauce)
Instructions
1. Marinate the Beef
In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, oil, garlic, coriander, turmeric, and black pepper.
Add the beef slices and toss to coat.
Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.
2. Prepare the Peanut Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together peanut butter, soy sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, ginger, and garlic.
Slowly add warm water, a little at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
Set aside or refrigerate until ready to serve.
3. Thread the Beef
Thread marinated beef strips onto the skewers, folding them in a ribbon-like pattern if needed to fit.
4. Grill the Satay
Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
Grill the skewers for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until the beef is cooked through and slightly charred.
5. Serve
