5-Minute Chocolate Banana Milkshake Recipe

When my kids ask for milkshakes, I want to say yes… but I also want to feel good about what I’m giving them. This chocolate banana milkshake is our happy middle ground. It’s sweet, creamy, and indulgent — but made with simple, real ingredients you probably already have on hand.
Perfect for after school, dessert, or just because, it takes less than 5 minutes to blend up and always hits the spot. You can dress it up with a dollop of whipped cream or keep it simple and sip it with a straw.
Ingredients
-
2 ripe bananas (frozen for extra creaminess)
-
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1½ cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
-
1–2 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
-
Ice cubes (optional, for a thicker texture)
Optional Toppings:
-
Whipped cream
-
Shaved dark chocolate
-
Banana slices
Instructions
-
Add bananas, cocoa powder, milk, sweetener (if using), and vanilla to a blender.
-
Blend until smooth and creamy. Add a few ice cubes if you like it extra thick.
-
Pour into two glasses and top with your favorite extras. Serve immediately.
Sarah’s Tips
-
Use frozen bananas to get that ultra-thick, milkshake texture without needing ice cream.
-
Want it richer? Swap in a splash of full-fat coconut milk or add a spoonful of peanut butter.
-
Great for kids, but I won’t lie — I’ve made this for myself more than once after bedtime.
