Grilled Fish Tacos with Slaw Recipe

Taco night has always been a favorite in our house—but when I wanted something a little lighter (and didn’t want to feel weighed down after dinner), these grilled fish tacos with slaw became my go-to.

They’re smoky, crunchy, and fresh with just the right amount of creamy tang from the slaw. And the best part? They come together in under 30 minutes and feel like something you’d order from your favorite beachside spot—only made with real, clean ingredients right in your kitchen.

Perfect for summer, but honestly, we eat these year-round.

Ingredients

For the Fish:

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (like cod, mahi-mahi, or tilapia)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

For the Slaw:

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (green, purple, or a mix)

  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots

  • 2 tbsp plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 tbsp lime juice

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

To Serve:

  • 6 small corn or whole wheat tortillas

  • Fresh cilantro, avocado slices, or lime wedges (optional toppings)

Instructions

  1. Season the fish: Pat dry and rub with olive oil, spices, salt, and lime juice.

  2. Grill the fish: Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook fish 3–4 minutes per side until flaky and cooked through. Let rest, then gently flake into chunks.

  3. Make the slaw: In a bowl, mix cabbage, carrots, Greek yogurt, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine and let it sit while the fish cooks.

  4. Warm the tortillas in a skillet or microwave.

  5. Assemble tacos: Add slaw to each tortilla, top with grilled fish, and finish with fresh cilantro, avocado, or extra lime juice if desired.

Why I Love These Tacos

These tacos are fresh, light, and totally satisfying without feeling heavy. The creamy slaw pairs perfectly with the smoky fish, and the whole meal feels like a little escape—especially on busy weeknights.

When I was learning how to eat better without feeling restricted, meals like this helped me fall in love with clean eating. It’s simple, real food that tastes amazing.
